The Subversive Book

The Subversive Book is a semi-intensive workshop about making books intended to create change, to surprise, to disrupt expectations — to be political, difficult, or playful. We will look at lots of examples of subversive books and book projects, learn low-tech binding and printing techniques, and work on zines, altered books, and book intervention and/or installation and/or performance projects.

The first iteration of this workshop occurred in the summer of 2014 at Public Space One, with an exhibition of student work, documented below, at the K.K. Merker Gallery at the University of Iowa Center for the Book, in September 2014.
